What is endodontic bleaching

Intracanal teeth’s whitening (endodontic bleaching) is a method of endodontic bleaching of pulp cavity and root canals by the introduction of special whitening gel. Initially, the causes that led to a change in tooth color are identified. There are several reasons, for example:

As a result of root canal filling with coloring materials (resorcinol-formaldehyde) tooth acquires a pink color.
In chronic periodontitis, the tooth darkens when there was pulp destruction.
With the penetration of dyes in cracks the tooth changes color as well.

Thus, endodontic whitening is needed when:

the tooth has changed its color as a result of untreated and complicated caries;
the root canal filling was carried out with coloring material;
when there is no effect of whitening the tooth outside.

How endodontic bleaching is performed

The condition of the tooth and root canals is assessed with the use of diagnostic study. If the tooth has not been previously treated with endodontic technique, it should be cured. If the tooth canals were filled with coloring material, it should be removed (the tooth is actually retreated). The stomas of the root canals are thoroughly cleaned from the coloring material and insulated with a gasket. The whitening gel is introduced into the cleared space and closed with temporary filling.

At next appointment within 12 hours doctor can assess the result. When the effect is achieved, the tooth will be recovered with the restoration material.
